Dear friends, Oeil Public photographers have made a decision to end the 15 years old agency's story. We thank you all for your faithful support. Oeil Public was a team of independant photographers, united through their involvment. And a tool adapting to its members' practices to fight for their independance, their points of view, their freedom. From its very first stories, Oeil Public photographers asserted their involvment to understand the world after a strong editorial line. They investigated for the press, giving priority to an in-depth approach over simple illustration. Its photographers have permanently explored the ways of story-telling in documentary journalism. They such made Oeil Public a research lab and a united undertaking. The press economic crisis has now made production of photo-stories impossible. Photojournalism practices have to be thought hard today. Oeil Public is no longer fitted. Oeil Public closes eyes today, to allow its members to keep theirs wide open. See you soon... Oeil Public |

Chers amis, Les photographes de l’Oeil Public ont décidé de clore l’histoire de l’agence après quinze ans d’existence. Nous vous remercions tous pour votre fidèle soutien. L’Oeil Public était un groupe de photographes indépendants réunis par leur engagement. C'était un outil adapté en permanence aux pratiques de ses membres pour défendre leur indépendance, leur point de vue, leur liberté. Dès ses premiers reportages, l’Oeil public a affirmé son engagement à raconter le monde grâce à une ligne éditoriale forte. A proposé des enquêtes à la presse, privilégiant toujours le fond sur l’image d’illustration. Ses photographes questionnant en permanence la narration en photographie documentaire on fait de l’Oeil Public un laboratoire de création et un objet solidaire. La crise mondiale de la presse ne permet plus à ses photographes de continuer à produire des histoires. Les pratiques du photojournalisme sont à repenser. Aujourd’hui, l’Oeil Public n’est plus adapté. L’Oeil Public ferme les yeux pour permettre à ses photographes de les garder ouverts. A bientôt... L’Oeil Public |

Karim Ben Khelifa is currently in Yemen for Stern Magazine following two weeks of assignment for the US base Wall Street Journal. Karim was featured early January in the Lens blog of the New York Times with a slideshow covering a few years of work in Yemen. In this context, he is on assignement for the National Audiovisual Center in Luxembourg (CNA) and a new documentary for the web is in progress.
